Robert began his legal career at Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP in Los Angeles in 1995 after graduating Valedictorian from Pepperdine University School of Law the same year.  In 1998, he went in house with Jefferies, an MLB client.  In 2000, Robert left Jefferies to serve as General Counsel of BeXcom, an internet B2B e-commerce provider based near Carmel Valley.  By the end of 2000, BeXcom had consolidated its offices to Shanghai and Robert returned to Jefferies, where he served as a Senior Vice President, Associate General Counsel and Managing Director in the Legal Department until 2015 when he formed Quadrant Law Group.

While at Jefferies, Robert structured and negotiated key technology agreements, market data vendor relationships and multi-million dollar outsourcing arrangements.  Early in his time at Jefferies, he also served as lead attorney on key equity and debt financing transactions, advising the equity and fixed income desks on strategic transactions, negotiating investment banking transactions and drafting key SEC disclosure documents.  Later, he supervised the team of attorneys reviewing all vendor facing contracts and developed the firm’s legal document management and workflow management system.

Robert has remained involved in public service and pro bono work throughout his legal career.  First elected to the Laguna Niguel City Council in 2006, Robert was re-elected in 2010 and served as its Mayor in 2009 and 2013. For six years, Robert was Co-Chair of the Laguna Niguel Military Support Committee and is the founding President of the Laguna Niguel Military Support Foundation.  Robert was also Founding President of the Association of California Cities-Orange County and served as Chair of its Pension Reform Committee and Economic Development and Jobs Creation committee. Previously, Robert served as President of the Orange County Division of the League of California Cities and chaired the League’s statewide Revenue and Taxation Policy Committee.  Robert is currently Chairman of the Board of Stoneybrooke Christian Schools and has previously served on the boards of the South Coast YMCA, the Saddleback Community College Foundation and The Bonner Institute for the Advancement of Choral Music.  Robert is also a past President of the Laguna Niguel Lion’s Club, the Laguna Niguel Rotary Club and a past board member of the Laguna Niguel Chamber of Commerce.

While at Pepperdine, Robert was fortunate to extern for Justice Armand Arabian at the California Supreme Court, and serve as a research assistant for then United States Solicitor General Kenneth Starr. Just after law school, Robert also served as a law clerk for Judge Lance Ito during the OJ Simpson trial. Robert now serves on the Board of Advisors for Pepperdine’s School of Law.
